America is a Christian nation

I am saddened and somewhat frustrated when I read letters that resound with ignorance and lack of truthful information. In particular, I would like to respond to Larry Donaldson’s letter of July 9.

Had Mr. Donaldson spoke less and read more, he would have discovered overwhelming evidence that America was founded on Christianity and that our forbearers did sanction Christianity. One need not “cherry pick” quotations to show this.

I will cite only one of the hundreds of similar quotations by most of our Founding Fathers. From Patrick Henry: “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here.” (“The Trumpet Voice of Freedom: Patrick Henry of Virginia,” p. iii.)

If Larry would speak less and research more, he would understand his statements to be erroneous.

Moreover, Mr. Donaldson’s statements are more Obama talking points rather than anything based on facts, and again I would suggest some research before ranting about issues.

As a Christian, I make many mistakes, do things I shouldn’t, but I am compassionate about people. Christians do tremendous work and often have vital influences on communities.

Like our Founding Fathers I understand that government is the problem, not the solution, and that is what the tea party is about. If our state and federal governments touch anything, it will quickly become a mess.

As with most Liberals, Mr. Donaldson believes government to be the solution.
