For the good of

country or voters?

I heard a lady member of the U.S. House of Representatives speaking on TV and she stated that if a bill came up which her constituents didn’t favor, but she considered “for the good of the country,” she would vote against the wishes of the people who put her in office. In my opinion the people we send to Washington are not there to tell us what to do, but to do what we tell them we want done. Am I wrong?

She happened to be a Democrat, but that’s neither here nor there, is it. Or is it?
