Letter: The good old days gone in medicine
In reference to the recent editorial “Of doctors and drug makers” and a recent letter, I will have been in practice 50 years this June. Drug reps are welcome to tell me about their medicine. I have tried to treat my patients properly and order appropriate medicine for their medical needs. It is insulting to think a sandwich would change my mind, because it does not.
Joyce Oglesbee wrote an interesting and insightful letter. The world has changed a lot in 50 years and medical practice with it. The big problem is economics. Solo practitioners cannot afford to run his office and they are going bankrupt nationwide. A good deal of this is because of insurance companies, various government agencies and the policies we are required to follow. For the future I don't see a return to the “good old days.”
