Letter: We don't know what's being put in the ground
Robert “Bo” Huenke, of Elida, is running against Huffman for his seat in the Ohio House of Representatives.
Ohio was plagued by earthquakes a few weeks ago and the culprit was hydraulic fracking. Three of the fracking sites were immediately closed.
Current state Rep. Matt Huffman, R-Lima, has known about these problems and proudly voted for a bill allowing fracking and oil drilling in our state parks. He knows about the Haliburton Clause to the Safe Drinking Water Act, which allows oil and gas companies not to disclose what is in their injection fluid. We found out last month the owner of the drilling rights in Ohio has sold its operations to a French company called TotalSA. France has outlawed fracking and now they are here to exploit our state. This all comes at a time when the U.S. is exporting more refined fuel and gas than it is importing.
House Bill 345 has been written to put a moratorium on fracking in Ohio until it can be proved safe. Wyoming wisely passed a law calling for the disclosure of all chemicals and compounds the oil and gas companies put in their wells. We are not against the drilling, but as seen in the movie “Gasland,” there are some terrible consequences to unregulated drilling.
