When the feds take a break from telling us how to light our homes, they work to protect us from lying, steroid-using baseball players. Congress has begun a process that could lead to perjury charges against baseball great Roger Clemens for lying to a congressional panel investigating steroid use in baseball. It’s good to know the nation is in such good shape that Congress has the time to chase after phantoms that have nothing to do with the body’s constitutional duties. Once that august body gets to the bottom of the steroid scandal, we look forward to Osama bin Laden surrendering himself to the nearest U.S. outpost. Most likely, peace will break out in the Middle East, Social Security will magically have all the money it will ever need, and some inventor will announce the creation of a car that runs on hot air from Washington.
