Letter: Berger should recant pledge for freedom

John Yohe, Lima

Recently in church, we were talking about the end times and what role America, this great leading world power, would play. I mentioned that it is sad to say, but America isn't involved.

Two days later, I learned of the U.S. Conference of Mayors convention and the push for homosexual marriage and rights. On Thursday, my greatest fears were confirmed by The Lima News article quoting Mayor David Berger's support for homosexual marriages.

My mind began to remember the historical event that took place in 1,900 B.C. where there were two cities full of people practicing sodomy. The Bible says their cup of iniquity was full due to their sensuous lifestyle, and God sent fire and brimstone from heaven to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. Will this happen to the beautiful red, white, and blue? With all the many thousands of unborn babies murdered by our life-saving doctors and now with mayors like Berger inflicting the wrath of God on our little city, will we be destroyed? Is that why America is not mentioned in the end times?

We have preachers pray for God's blessing to our little community and then we turn against his mercy and love by embracing such disgrace and spit in His face. Homosexuality is an abomination to God and mankind. Man was never made for man, and woman was never made for woman. How dare we change what we were designed to be.

I am asking Berger to recant his support to the Mayors for the Freedom to Marry pledge and stand for the true civil rights issue: marriage between one man and one woman.
