GERALD GRANGERLimaThis is in response to the letter from Joyce Oglesbee titled “Dinner more than just a meal” (Dec. 10). I think she missed the whole point of the letter titled “I hope you enjoyed  your meal” (Nov. 27). She was writing of the disabled, elderly and poor. And I’m sure she did thank God as she does this everyday. Yes, she is disabled. She was writing of the people who have family and had a dinner to provide, but still went to Veterans Memorial Civic Center. This is disrespectful. Why would someone who has family and a great dinner need to go to the Civic Center to socialize with others? Isn’t it enough to enjoy your family at home and not take from someone the ability to socialize because there wasn’t anything left? Oglesbee missed the whole idea of the letter. As for the ones who couldn’t get to the Civic Center, the Allen County Regional Transit Authority addressed that earlier in November: Services would be given to those wanting to go. It is true that a lot of people are out of food at the end of the month. Let’s not forget them. But her whole idea was about those with family and plenty of food at home deciding to go for another meal elsewhere when it should have been left for the elderly, the disabled, the poor and those without family. Please remember that it is better to give than receive. To receive a chance to socialize given by those who have that at home is the greatest gift you can give.
