While reading the article on the front page of the April 1 edition, I became furious at the U.S. Department of Labor. Have all government officials become idiots or just a few?My husband and I raised five children on a farm. These children worked on the farm with us, with grandparents, friends and neighbors. This was how they learned work ethics, and they are gainfully employed today.Yes, there are some unsafe jobs on a farm, but farm kids not only are taught to work but are also taught safety rules.A farm is a place a child can learn so much that he will not learn sitting in a classroom. You can't wait until a child is 18 and tell him to find a job because, if he hasn't worked by then, he probably never will.Government agencies have too much power today. Government should not be raising our children. Let's go back to the days when most kids grew up working on farms and living a safe, good life.Let's stand up for our freedoms before we lose them.
