Another sparkling evening was provided by Lima Symphony Orchestra’s New Year’s Eve performance with the movie music of composer John Williams. The attentive audience showed its appreciation following the encore presentation of “Star Wars” music and light display that almost literally took you to outer space — they stood applauding, cheering and whistling.

There were several standout pieces, namely “Catch Me If You Can” with Shannon Ford on alto saxophone and bassist Victor Dome; the plaintive “Angela’s Ashes” with Jill Coston, solo piano, and Terri Rivetti, oboe, placing the final heart-wrenching touch; “Schindler’s List” theme solo performed by concert master violinist, Michael Houff, brought tears to the eye.

The computerized light display that accentuated the evening’s performances was brilliantly done. Spectacular!

The always genial maestro, Crafton Beck, provided a personal touch with verbal snapshots of John Williams through the years to the present time.

We left the Crouse Theater in high spirits, happily fulfilled.

Thank you, Lima Symphony Orchestra and director Crafton Beck. The city of Lima is, indeed, most fortunate.
