I will vote for the Delphos school-funding issue May 4. Why is this important? Because I have never nor will I ever vote to increase or maintain property taxes through new or renewal efforts by schools or any other type of organizations. Always remember, a no vote to a property tax renewal equals less taxes. I cannot in good conscience require senior citizens and/or disabled property owners to pay for anything not being paid by all users or potential users.
Before anyone thinks I am being selfish, I have only owned taxable property for the last 10 years. I turned 21 in 1969 and voted for the next 30 years against property taxes even though it would not save me even a dime. It could very well have cost me a great deal of money through other types of taxes.
I will never vote for property taxes even if I would receive benefits from their being collected. The minority few being required to pay for the majority (who pay little or nothing) is just plain wrong on any level. Anyone can donate time or money to any cause or organization he believes is worth supporting. I have several organizations and causes that I donate to as often as my finances allow me to do so.
The fairest way to pay for schools, groups and organizations is through a sales tax. The next fairest is the income tax.
In closing, let me please restate. I will be voting for this school tax.
