Recently I read an article in The Lima News about some Bluffton University students. The article generally cast the light on the students as a bunch of drunken troublemakers. Let me describe my experience with the Bluffton University students. It was August 2007. I was awakened in the middle of the night by a Bluffton police officer telling me that Riley Creek was coming out of its banks and the area next to my home was flooding. By daylight, the water continued to rise and it became obvious we were facing the very real possibility we were going to lose our home to the flood. With only a handful of neighbors and family to help, sandbagging seemed an impossible task, but we were going to try. Suddenly, I heard a commotion coming down the street and I saw the entire Bluffton University football team, volleyball team and many other students I had never met coming to help sandbag. They worked most of the day and managed to beat the flood and we saved our home. Those are the true Bluffton University students. I'm sure most of those students will never read this letter, but thank you for all you have done for my family.Related Stories/Links
