SPENCERVILLE — Leona E. Morris, 97, died at 1:03 a.m. June 28, 2013, at Lima Manor.
She was born June 27, 1916, in Rockford, the daughter of Robert and Marintha Roberts Shepler, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 3, 1934, she married Carl L. Morris, and he died May 24, 1996, after 62 years of marriage.
Survivors include, four children, William L. “Bill” Morris, of Spencerville, Eleanor E. (Blaine) Place, of Perrysburg and Fort Myers, Fla., Jane A. Roesner, of Akron, and Kathleen M. “Kathy” Anders, of Elida; seven grandchildren, Harold (Jeanette) Morris, Randy (Vivian) Place, Shari (Steve) Zimmer, Jodi Wagoner, Julia (Tom Rowan) Roesner, Brian Anders and Jenny Anders; a stepgranddaughter, Meghan Adams; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; five siblings, Charley Shepler, Mary M. Kenyon, June (Roland) Rempfer, Robert “Bob” (Arlene) Shepler and Lenora (David) Reiter; a sister-in-law, Doris Shepler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Martha Morris;a brother, Carl Shepler; and a sister-in-law, Augusta Shepler.
Leona retired in 1979 from Spencerville Schools after 20 years as a cook and supervisor in the cafeteria. Prior to that, she had worked at the Spencerville Locker. She was a member of the Spencerville United Church of Christ and its Women’s Fellowship. She was a 61 year member of Chapter 130 Order of Eastern Star, Spencerville , and had been a member of the Spencerville Grange 2424. She was a 1934 graduate of Spencerville High School and a 4-H adviser with the Spencerville Tip-Top Seniorettes. She also volunteered with the Lima Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Medical Park Women’s Health Center. Leona and her husband wintered in Bradenton, Fla., for 20 years. She enjoyed making crafts and being with people.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville. Pastor Tom Shobe will officiate. Burial will be in Spencerville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where an OES memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m.
