Albert Hugh Fields, 75, died at 3:07 p.m. May 18, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 18, 1938, in Lima to Eldridge S. and Fannie Mae Ward Fields, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 24, 1959, he married Irene Delores Washington, who died Nov. 26, 2006.

Mr. Fields worked at Whemco Steel for more than 53 years. He was a member of Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church. He was an Army Airborne veteran. He was a car show enthusiast and an avid sports enthusiast. He will be remembered for his generosity and willingness to help others in need. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include three daughters, Crystal R. Fields, of Overland Park, Kan., Nita R. Fields-Klear, of Lima, and Katherine E. (Francis) Fields-Ponti, of Richmond, Va.; two grandchildren, Jerrica A. Fields and Marshall C. Klear; three brothers, Howard Fields and Joseph (Dorothy) Fields, both of Lima, and Floyd E. Fields, of Ada; and six sisters, Alice Gatewood, of Lima, Betty Smith, of Kansas City, Mo., Barbara Bennett, of Toledo, Loretta Mobley, of Detroit, and Patricia Musgrove and Donna Fields, both of Lima.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John Fields; and a sister, Ruth Penager.

Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Earnest Stephens Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the church, where the family will be present from 7 to 9 p.m.
