Larry A. VanHorn, 64, died at 4:29 p.m. April 3, 2013, at Ross Medical Center, Columbus.
He was born April 6, 1948, in Lima, the son of the late Clyde VanHorn and Pauline Carrier VanHorn, who survives in Lima. In November 1976 he married Darlene “Joyce” McClain who also survives in Lima.
Mr. VanHorn retired as a major from the Allen County Sheriff’s Office. He retired in 2005, after 34 years of service. He later worked as an investigator with the Allen County Coroners Office. He was a member of the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association, the Fraternal Order of Police and the Knights of Columbus. He was a 1966 graduate of Lima Senior High School and a 1983 graduate of the FBI Academy.
Surviving is a daughter, Jill (Dan) Lucke, of Lima; a son, Joe (Kate) Lombardo, of Kenton; a daughter, Jessica (Kenny Upshaw) VanHorn, of Lima; 11 grandchildren, Christian “Alek”, McCormick, Carrigan and Jillian Lucke, Michael, Daniel, Angelo and Caroline Lombardo, Olivia Bercaw, and K.J. and Gianna Upshaw; and a brother, Ed VanHorn, of Lima.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard VanHorn.
