ROSE M. MATTHEWS, 89, of Bucyrus, formerly of Kalida, died at 12:30 a.m. Feb. 20, 2005, at the Carlisle House, Bucyrus.
She was born July 10, 1915, in Kalida to Herman and Anna Kamphaus Buss, who preceded her in death. She married J. Fred "Fritz" Matthews, who died April 17, 2003.
Mrs. Matthews retired as a public school cashier. She had been a member of Immaculate Heart Catholic Church and its Rosary Altar Society. She had been a member of Ladies of St. Patrick Knights of Columbus Council 484 Auxiliary. She and her husband moved to Bucyrus two years ago.
Survivors include a son, James F. (Joyce) Matthews of Lakeridge, Va.; a daughter, Ruth Moening of Bucyrus; five grandchildren, Scott Matthews of Virginia, Rebecca Matthews of California, Heather Moening of Cardington, Amanda Moening of Bucyrus and Bernadette Dyer of Mount Vernon; a great-granddaughter, Isabelle; a sister, Mildred "Mickey" Pohl.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn R. Matthews; three brothers, Joseph, Leo and Harry; and six sisters, Mary Kramer, Magdalena Schroeder, Veronica Drees, Agnes Meiering , Marcella "Sally" Goedde and Monica Weis.
A memorial Mass will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida. Father Steve Schroeder, her nephew, will officiate. A memorial service will be held Sunday at Carlisle House, Bucyrus.
Friends may call at 11:30 a.m. Saturday for a prayer service at Haven Memorial Park Chapel, Cincinnati.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's, Hospice or Kidney foundations.
