Robert Earl Watkins Sr.

Robert Earl Watkins Sr., 71, died at 11:08 p.m. April 6, 2013, at Lima Memorial Health System.

He was born Nov. 19, 1941, in Lexington, Miss., to Andrew and Alberta Cobbins Watkins Sr., who died when he was a toddler. He was adopted and raised by his older brother, Andrew (Florence) Watkins Jr., who also preceded him in death. He married Joann Washington, who survives in Uniondale, N.Y.

Mr. Watkins retired as a sanitation engineer for the state of New York.

He loved to sit around telling stories and socializing with family and friends.

Survivors include five sons, Robert E. (Deborah) Watkins Jr., of Scranton, Pa., Robert E. James, of Lexington, Miss., Tommie James, of New York City, Eldray (Patrice) Watkins, of Columbus, and Kevin Alves, of Lima; four daughters, Lena (Michael) Springer, of Lima, Victoria (Delroy) Roberts, of Uniondale, N.Y., Sharone (Christopher) Anderson, of Roosevelt, N.Y., and Tara N. Skipper, of Whiteville, N.C.; 25 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Willie A. (Kaylene) Watkins and Clarence L. (Brenda) Watkins, both of Lima, and Robert G. (Annie) Watkins, of Delphos; and four sisters, Carrie B. Thomas, of Jonestown, Miss., and Ora D. Page, Minister D. Elaine Watkins and Sherri L. (Alan) Jackson, all of Lima.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Thomas, Andrew III, Kevin and Larry Watkins; and four sisters, L.E. Sims, Bertha Delaney, Pearl Patton and Dorothy Pernell.

Services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Jones-Clark Funeral Home. Minister D. Elaine Watkins will officiate.

Friends may call one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
