Betty Jean Brown, 87, died at 9: 10 p.m. Nov. 8, 2012, at Lima Convalescent Home.



She was born Dec. 15, 1924, in Mount Blanchard, the daughter of the late Gleason McVitty and the late Cora Reigle McVitty. Betty married Dr. Thomas J. Brown, on July 17, 1949, and he resides in Lima.



She was a school teacher and received her bachelorís degree in education from The Ohio State University in 1948. She was a member of Lima Trinity United Methodist Church and its the United Methodist Women where served as president and Secretary. She was a member of the PEO, where she served as president, the Sorosis Club, the Chapter 16 Order of Eastern Star, where she was a member for 50 years, a member of the AAUW, a charter member of the Cotillion Dance Club, and a life member of the Lima Memorial Health Systems Auxiliary.



Surviving are two sons, Thomas J. (Paula) Brown Jr., of Columbus, and Dr. David T. (Ann) Brown, of Indianapolis; two daughters, Linda (Dr. Joseph) Beaman, of Dayton, and Patricia (Judge Jeffrey) Reed, of Lima; 10 grandchildren, Dr. Andrea (Dr. Aaron) Sargeant, Benjamin (Dr. Jessica) Beaman, Dr. Rachel (Timothy) Kacmar, Amelia Brown, Jacob Brown, Elizabeth (Michael) Burke, James Brown, Alison (William) Hedges, Diana (Eric) Rose and Amy Reed; and five great-grandchildren, Samantha, Alexandra, Andrew, Thomas and Victoria.



She was predeceased by sisters, Mary Ellen Gardner and Dorothy Emig.



Memorial service will be on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. David Harris will officiate.



Visitation will be on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at the Trinity United Methodist Church.
