Betty L. Burgei, 79, died at 1 p.m. May 5, 2013, at Community Health Professionals Hospice Center, Van Wert.
She was born March 6, 1934, near Delphos to John and Leona Brickner Pohlman, who preceded her in death. On Sept. 14, 1957, she married Jerome Burgei, who survives in Delphos.
Mrs. Burgei was a seamstress and a homemaker who sewed for hundreds of people in many counties. She sewed wedding, prom and first communion dresses and dance costumes. She was a dedicated member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos, where she rarely missed a 7:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays. Her faith was instrumental in her life. She was a graduate of Delphos St. John’s High School. She was an exceptional cook, loved gardening and enjoyed baking for Relay for Life and St. John’s Church Festival. She loved to sew and make quilts. She truly enjoyed spending time with her family. She always stopped what she was doing to help people. Her life revolved around giving to her family and friends. Her pleasure was the smiles she created. She never asked for anything. She truly enjoyed spending time with her husband. They were rarely seen one without the other.
Survivors also include four sons, Ricky (Barbara) Burgei and Robb (Sherry) Burgei, both of Delphos, Russ (Bonnie) Burgei, of Witmore Lake, Mich., and Randy Burgei, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister, Alice Leis, of Ottoville; and 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Pohlman; and a sister, Ruth Pohlman.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos. Father Chris Bohnsack will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Harter & Schier Funeral Home, Delphos.
