Mary M. Young Grant, 80, died at 1:45 p.m. Jan. 30, 2008, at The Ridge at Shawnee.
She was born March 10, 1927, in Woodberry, Ga., to Henry and Lula Thomas Young, who preceded her in death. She married Junior Grant, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Grant retired from the Lima Public Library after more than 25 years. She was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where she had been a member of the usher board and the Willing Workers for several years. She was an independent woman who shared her life with her family and friends. She would always have something funny to talk about that would make you laugh.
Survivors include three nieces, Louise Young and JoAnn Young, both of Atlanta, and Bessie Young, of Augusta, Ga.; three nephews, Randy Young, of Columbus, Bishop Willie B. (Mildred) Mitchell Sr., of Atlanta, and Marcus (Tomika) Lowe, of Columbus; a sister-in-law, Rosa Young, of Augusta, Ga.; and members of the Adams, Tolbert Matthews, Young and Russell families that she was related to.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Nettie Tyler; and eight brothers, M.T., John, Jabo, Sterling, John H., Roy, Willie G. and J.D. Young.
Services will begin at noon Tuesday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Fayne G. Wise will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Jones-Clark Funeral Home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.
