Donald E. Armstrong, 88, died at 12:55 p.m. Feb. 6, 2008, at Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home.

He was born June 4, 1919, in Columbus to Fred and Mary E. Saunders Armstrong, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 22, 1942, he married Louise L. Smith, who died Nov. 13, 1994.

Mr. Armstrong was a salesman for Brookfield Uniforms for 29 years and had been a postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Lima and Elida for 27 years. He was a member of Lima Baptist Temple, where he had been a deacon and helped with attendance. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant with the 82nd Airborne Division, 326th Glider Infantry. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed playing golf and vacationing with his family at Mackinac Island and Hilton Head Island. The joy of his life was his daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Annette Jean (James J.) Cypher, of Elida; two grandchildren, Heather C. (Cory) Crozier, of Springboro, and Brett J. Cypher, of Centerville; and two great-grandchildren, Haley and Carson Crozier.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Robert Armstrong.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Lima Baptist Temple. Pastors Dan Wigton and Gary Hohman will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
