LimaWilliam Warner “Bill” McKinney, 77, died at 4:22 a.m. March 30, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.He was born March 5, 1935, in Lima to Harold and Florence Lance McKinney, who preceded him in death. He married Patricia Welsh, who survives in Lima.Mr. McKinney was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, serving from May 21, 1952, to May 20, 1956. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 and American Legion Post 96. He was one of the first employees to be hired at Ford Motor Co. Lima Engine Plant. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 1219, where he served as president twice, was a union representative several times and a labor representative for United Fund for several years. Following his retirement, he worked at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, was financial chairman of the Upper Miami Fellowship Council and was nominated from Ford as the Outstanding Young Man of The Year. He was known for being an outstanding cook, having helped with many Masonic lodge activities, catering and always the cook at family get-togethers. He was a member and past master of Fort Amanda Lodge 706 Free & Accepted Masons, past high priest of Lima Chapter 49 Royal Arch Masons, past illustrious master of Lima Council 20 Royal & Select Masons; past commander of Shawnee Commandery 14 Knights Templar; past second arch adjutant of Grand Council Royal & Select Masons of Ohio, member of Ohio Prior 18 Knights of the York Cross of Honor, member and past sovereign master of Buckeye Council 52 and Allied Masonic Degrees. He was a 32nd degree member of Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton and a Meritorious Service Award recipient. He was also a member of the Royal Order of Scotland, past president of the Lima Shrine Club, past president of the Masters High 12 Club 590, past president of the Allen County Scottish Rite Association, member of Trinity Chapter 16 Order of Eastern Star, where he had been an associate patron and past worthy patron. He was a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370. He had been a cub master for St. Mark Cub Scout Pack 47 and a neighborhood chairman for Cub Scouting. He was a member of Lima Baptist Temple.Survivors also include three sons, Michael McKinney, of Lima, William D. (Robin) McKinney, of Ross, and Paul Lee (Lorie) McKinney, of Hamilton; two daughters, Tammy (Keith) Kahler, of Put-In-Bay, and Lori (Tim) EnYart, of Lima; a brother, Thomas H. McKinney, of Lima; a sister, Margaret M. (Kenneth) Edwards, of Columbus Grove; and 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jon and James McKinney; and two sisters, Iris Hennessy and Mary Lou McDonald.Services will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Lima Baptist Temple. Pastor Gary Hohman will officiate.
