ADA — John David Boyd, 65, went home to be with the Lord July 5, 2013, at 11:03 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System.


He was born June 9, 1948, in Floyd County, Ky., to Emmitt and Blanche Van Hoose Boyd. His father died shortly before his birth and he was raised by his mother and stepfather, George and Blanche Collins Sr., who are also deceased. He was previously married to Joanne Jaycox Boyd, of Ada.


John retired in 2008, from Whirlpool Corp., Findlay, after 37 years, where he was a supervisor. He was a 1966 graduate of Martin High School, Martin, Ky. He also graduated with an associate degree from Northwestern Business College, Lima. John was a 1968 to 1970 Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War. He was a former quartermaster and commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9381, Ada . John attended the Wapakoneta Community Worship Center. He had a faithful relationship with the Lord Jesus for many years.


Surviving are three daughters, Sherri (Mark) James, of San Diego, Stacey (Gary) Park, of Ada, and Carrie (Marc) McClain, of St. Marys; three brothers, Mike (Vicki) Boyd, of Allen, Ky., George (Vicki) Collins, of Kenton, and Greg (Rita) Collins, of Arlington; two sisters, Mavis (Ken) Allen, of Alger, and Vivian Collins, of Ada; and seven grandchildren, Tyler Park, Austin Park, Zachariah Park, Jacob Park, Madison Park, Marcus McClain and Caiden McClain.


He was preceded in death by a brother, James Emmitt Boyd; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Boyd; and his mother- and father-in-law, Vada and Harrison Jaycox.


Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada. Pastor Ken VanHoose will officiate. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger, with military rites by VFW Post 9381.


Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and until time of services Friday at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada.


Memorial contributions may be made to ALS – Lou Gehrig’s Disease or American Diabetes Association.
