Howard L. Henschen, 90, died at 12:55 p.m. April 14, 2013, at the St. Marys Living Center.
He was born Nov. 12, 1922, in Shelby County, the son of Ferdinand and Lydia Feldwisch Henschen. He married Glenna Jean Walls on April 22, 1944, and she survives at the St. Marys Living Center.
He is survived by his two daughters, Sharon (Rick) Tangeman, of New Bremen, and Susan (Dan) Stemen, of Lima; a sister, Melba Henschen, of New Knoxville; five grandchildren, Aaron Tangeman, Jennifer Stemen, Heather (Sandeep) Das, Pamela Stemen and Joy Stemen; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Shawver and Connor Das.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Grace Duncan; and a brother, Lester Henshen.
Howard was a 1940 graduate of New Knoxville High School. He was a veteran of the Army, having served during World War II. He retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., St. Marys, after 42 years. He was a member of Faith Alliance Church, New Bremen, where he had served as a deacon, elder and Sunday school teacher. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking and was a big sports fan, especially The Ohio State University Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds. He served as mayor of New Knoxville for 10 years.
Funeral rites will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Faith Alliance Church, New Bremen. Pastors Dean Greenwood and Tom Sager will officiate. Burial will be in Pilger Ruhe Cemetery, New Knoxville.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Friday at Faith Alliance Church, where memorial gifts may be given to the Gideons or Disabled American Veterans.
