WAPAKONETA â?? Herbert L. â??Herbâ?ť Leugers, 90, of Wapakoneta, died 6:05 p.m., Fri. May 3, 2013, at St. Ritaâ??s Medical Center, Lima.
He was born Sept. 25, 1922, in Osgood, OH, the son of Herman & Frances (Uhlenhake) Leugers, who preceded him in death. On Nov. 3, 1956, he married Ruth E. Roby, and she survives.
Other survivors include, a brother & sister-in-law, Wilfred & Katie Leugers, Botkins, sisters-in-law, Margaret Krites, Wapakoneta, Dorothy Leugers, Wapakoneta, Lois Leugers, Texas, numerous nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Norbert, Urban, Aloys â??Peteâ?ť, Arnold â??Budâ?ť & Vernon, a sister & brother-in-law, Odelia & Gene Wagner, and a sister-in-law, Elsie Leugers.
Herb had worked at Unisteel, Lima, retired as janitor at the Wapakoneta V.F.W. He served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II and the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Silver Star. Herb was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta. He was a life member of the V.F.W., Post #8445, and his other memberships included the American Legion, Post #330, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie #691, Amvets Post #333, and the K of C, Council #1272, all of Wapakoneta. His hobbies included working in his yard, playing cards, and watching the Cincinnati Reds.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wed. May 8, 2013, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Botkins, Rev. Patrick Sloneker officiating. Burial is to follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Wapakoneta, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta V.F.W., Post #8445.
The family will receive friends 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., Tues. at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta.
