ELIDA â?? Robert L. â??Bobâ?ť Dillhoff, 65, died Dec. 10, 2012, at St. Ritaâ??s Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 13, 1947, in Cincinnati, the son of the late Robert M. â??Big Boyâ?ť Dillhoff and the late Margaret â??Marjâ?ť Gatto Dillhoff. Bob married Teresa Henderson, his wife of 42 years, on June 27, 1970, in Delphos. She survives in Elida.
Bob retired in 2006 from the Ohio Department of Transportation as highway management administrator for District 1. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. He was a 1965 graduate of Archbishop Moeller High School, Cincinnati. In 1970, he received a bachelorâ??s degree in civil engineering from the University of Dayton, where he also trained in the ROTC. He was on the board of directors for the Union Bank, Delphos, and worked for many years with Mike Swaneyâ??s Buick GMC, Wapakoneta. He founded Dillhoff Builders and managed the construction of many family homes, mostly in the Laurel Oaks neighborhood in Elida. He loved to travel and plan trips, was a golfer and a Cincinnati Reds and Bengals fan. He also cheered for The Ohio State University Buckeyes and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Bob was a selfless, generous man who was never happier than when he was helping someone else. Relatives and friends often called him for advice on their car troubles, home purchases,and travel plans. Bob always had a listening ear and a wealth of knowledge to share. Above all, Bob was a family man. He loved his wife, Terri, completely and provided for her before himself. He cherished his children and made every band concert and Little League game his priority. He worked tirelessly in all he did, but managed to be home for dinner every night.
Surviving are a son, Matthew (Malisa) Dillhoff, of Kettering; a daughter, Megan Dillhoff; a grandchild, Charlotte Dillhoff, of Kettering; a brother, William â??Billâ?ť (Kathy) Dillhoff, of Cincinnati; four nephews, Keith (Dinora) Dillhoff, Joe (Michelle) Metzger, Mark (Jessica Hutchins) Henderson and Jim (Jennifer) Dillhoff; three nieces, Ann Marie (Erik) Schousboe, Rachel (Jarrod) Smith and Jill (Arian) Antonucci. Bob cared deeply for his grand-nephews and â??nieces.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Charles Catholic Church. Father Stephen Blum will officiate. Interment will be in Gethsemani Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.
Donations of new toys for Toys for Tots may be brought to the Friday visitation. Bob always made sure that children were taken care of at the holidays. Monetary donations can be directed to the Sisters of St. Francis, P.O. Box 100, Oldenburg, IN 47036.
