LIMA â?? James A. â??Jimâ?ť Harris, 75, died at 4:03 a.m., June 14, 2013, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center, Van Wert.

He was born Nov. 1, 1937, in Lima to Claude A. and Mary E. Rockhold Harris. On Nov. 19, 1963, he married Leslie D. Harris, who died Jan. 30, 2013.

Mr. Harris was a 1955 graduate of Lima Central High School, which was its last graduating class. He received a bachelorâ??s degree in economics for Otterbein College. He was an Air Force veteran, being honorably discharged in 1965. While stationed in Washington, he met his wife. Following the birth of their first child, they moved to Lima to raise their growing family. He then returned to the family business, becoming owner of Harris IGA Foodliners. Following his retirement, he became a tax preparer for AARP. He enjoyed working in his flower and vegetable gardens, tending to the birds and turning wood, making small woodworking projects. In his free time he enjoyed playing poker with his friends. Though he was never lucky at cards, he and his father each won a car at an IGA convention. He was a member of Shawnee United Methodist Church. He had been a board member for the Allen County Council on Aging. In 2010, he was inducted into the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame.

Survivors include three children, Rebecca (Garry) Terrell, of Glendale, Robert Harris, of Liberty Township, and Laura Harris, of Toledo; three grandchildren, Alex, Emily and Chloe; and four siblings, Janet Harris, of Portland, Ore., David (Sheryl) Harris, of West Chester, Paul (Cathy) Harris, of Lima, and Lynn (Michael) Scott, of Fair Haven, N.J.

Services will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel. The Rev. Charlotte Hefner will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 and the Air Force Honor Guard.

Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Health Professionals Hospice.
