LIMA — Donald R. Newman, 80, of Lima, passed away at 8:20 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2013 at Lima Memorial Hospital. He was born March 7, 1933 in Floyd County, KY to Ted and Arminia (Jones) Newman, and they precede him in death. On July 23, 1955, he married Mary Pennington and she survives him at home.
Donald is a US Army Veteran, serving from 1953 to 1955, spending much of the time stationed in Fairbanks, AK.
He spent over 39 1/2 years with the Ford Motor Co., retiring in 1995. He and Mary have been members of Lima Baptist Temple for nearly 40 years. He is a 55-year member, Past President and Past Worthy President of the Lima Eagles Aerie 1370, a member of American Legion Post 96, Moose Lodge 199 and enjoyed traveling.
Mr. Newman is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Pennington Newman at home, daughter, Tammy (Mike) Bradshaw of Bluffton, daughter-in-law, Laura Newman of Gahanna, grandchildren, Jessica (Aaron) Hermiller, Alicia (Sean) Hudson, Eli Bradshaw, Karissa Newman and Dalton Newman and great-grandchildren Zaeda and Fay, along with his sisters, Dallas (Herb) Carpenter and Pat Stewart.
Donald is preceded in death by his son, Tim Newman, brothers Freeman and Arthur Newman and sisters, Hazel Little, Geneveve Newman and Bernice Sargent.
Services will be Tuesday, 11 a.m. at the Lima Baptist Temple, 982 Brower Rd, Lima.
Visitation for Donald will be Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Siferd-Orians Funeral Home, 506 N. Cable Rd., Lima. Burial Tuesday will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
