Paul J. Sever, 89, died at 3:41 p.m. May 6, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 2, 1924, in Allen County to Joseph and Victoria Hummer Sever, who preceded him in death. On Oct. 5, 1946, he married Rose Suever, who survives in Delphos.
Mr. Sever was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving from 1943 to 1946, as a carpenter’s mate 2nd class. Following the war, he drilled water wells with his father for eight years. In 1954, he founded Sever Well Drilling, where he retired from in 1989. Following his retirement, he worked with his son, drilling wells from 1989 to 2000. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos. He was a life member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a member of the Catholic Knights of Ohio, Landeck. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, mushroom hunting and playing horseshoes. He loved spending time at his cottage at Indian Lake and his home in Florida. When he was younger, he played semi-professional baseball in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Survivors also include a son, Dan “Fuzzy” (Sue) Sever, of Delphos; three daughters, Pamela Sever, Rebecca (Joe) Saum and Denise (Butch) Conley, all of Delphos; 11 grandchildren, Gavin (Heather) Sever, Jeff (Melissa) Sever, Aaron (Rachel) Sever, Lindsey Sever, Nicole (Greg) McCann, Brent (April Estrada) Zerkel, Colin (Josette) Wannemacher, Dusty (Jessica Barnes) Wannemacher, Shawn Conley, Ryan (Nicole) Conley and Damian (Jessica) Conley; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Alberta Sever, Ella Rose Ulm and Helen Sever; and a brother, Melvin Sever.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos. Father Chris Bohnsack will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Delphos.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Harter & Schier Funeral Home, Delphos, where a parish wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
