LIMA — Jimmy F. Dell, 83, died at 2:18 a.m. April 27, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 4, 1930, in New Orleans to Oris L. and Lucille Katherine Butts Dell, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 24, 1957, he married Myrtle M. Cramer, and she survives in Lima.
Mr. Dell was a graduate of Louisiana State University with a degree in mechanical engineering; he received his master’s degree from the University of Dayton in business administration. He was retired from Westinghouse. He served as a substitute teacher for Shawnee schools and Apollo Career Center after he retired. He also worked for the Lima Public Library. He was an active volunteer for the Department of Children Services and served as a board member; he was also a volunteer juvenile probation officer. He was an active participant in foster care parenting with his wife, Myrtle. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was formerly a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school for more than 50 years, and he helped serve the community breakfasts at Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors also include two sons, Scott A. (Denise K.) Dell, of Elgin, Ill., and Richard F. (Mary Liz) Dell, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a daughter, Diana M. (Perry L.) Boise, of Lima; four granddaughters, Shanna Johnson, Angela Leindecker, Whitney Dell and Kenzie Boise; five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ryan, Kayla, Ben and Nathan; and a sister, Bettijean Vickers, of Baton Rouge, La.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Lima. Pastor David Harris will officiate.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Community Breakfast c/o Trinity United Methodist Church.
