Father George M. Koerber
Father George M. Koerber, of Summerfield, Fla., formerly of Delphos, died the evening of July 5, 2009, at Tuscany Hospice, Summerfield, Fla.
He was born in Detroit.
Father Koerber was a priest of the Toledo Diocese. He served as an associate pastor at St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos, and Little Flower Catholic Church, Toledo, before being named pastor at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Plymouth. He served as administrator pro tem at St. Paul Catholic Church, Norwalk, and St. Mary Catholic Church, Wakeman. He served as pastor at Assumption St. Mary Catholic Church. He served as chaplain at St. Charles Hospital from July 1978 until his retirement in 1994.
He was baptized at Blessed Sacrament Church, Detroit. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Toledo. He attended college seminary at St. Mary's in Kentucky and a major seminary at Mount St. Mary's, Norwood. He was ordained on May 28, 1960, by Bishop George J. Rehring at Holy Rosary Cathedral.
Survivors include three nieces, Justine Dantzer, Marlene Stoermer and Mary Elonne Saffer; and two nephews, David Dantzer and Douglas Dantzer.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Toledo. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until time of services Monday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Diocese of Toledo Priests Retirement Fund.
