Merle Jacob Leedy, 86, died at 10:25 p.m. Dec. 23, 2007, at Lost Creek Care Center.
He was born July 25, 1921, in Bath Township to Harry A. and Alice V. Bridges Leedy, who preceded him in death. On April 5, 1942, he married Margaretta Breitigan, who died June 2, 1946. On Dec. 17, 1949, he married Lois "Susie" Smith, who survives. They had just celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Mr. Leedy was self-employed as a Borden Milk hauler for several years and he was employed at Nickles Bakery for 21 years. He was also self-employed at Leedy's Cabinet Shop for several years. He was a member of First Evangelical and Reformed Church and had attended Waynesfield Baptist Church for 14 years. He was a 45-year member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370. He had been a coach for Little League baseball.
Survivors also include a son, Dr. Marvin (Regran) Leedy, of Akron; a daughter, Merlene (Gerald) Metzger, of Delphos; five grandchildren, Debra (Erik) Kissner, of San Marcos, Calif., Matthew (Jennifer) Barnes, of Blacklick, Dr. Jason (Heather) Leedy, of Pepper Pike, Drake (Kimbra) Leedy, of Chicago, and Laura (Brendan Mulcahy) Leedy, of Astoria, N.Y.; nine great-grandchildren, Samantha and Allison Kissner, Carter and Joshua Barnes, J.R., Luke, Maxwell and Margaretta Leedy and Finnbarr Mulcahy; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Roy, Herman, Roger, and Donald Leedy; and a sister, Virginia Stewart.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Lewis Eastside Chapel. Pastor Don Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
