Richard ā??Dickā? Rimer, 80, died at 3 p.m. March 25, 2013, at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora.
He was born Jan. 24, 1933, in Rimer to George B. and Lyda Patton Rimer, who preceded him in death. On July 16, 1967, he married Wilma J. Anderson Fortman, who died Feb. 1, 1996.
Mr. Rimer was the ninth of 10 children born to his parents. He was proud of his family heritage in Rimer. He was the grandson of Daniel Rimer and his great-grandfather was Peter Rimer, the founder of and first member of the town of Rimer in Putnam County. He worked for Russell Co., Pandora, for three years, the Putnam County Vidette, for nine years, The Lima News for 10 years and retired from Country Builders Supply & Construction after 29 years. He was a 1952 graduate of Columbus Grove High School. He was a member of Columbus Grove Christian Church. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Pot 9648 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2772, both in Columbus Grove. He was a loving father to his children, a wonderful grandfather to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a proud uncle to his nieces, nephews and their children. He loved his wife and especially enjoyed the time they spent at the lake.
Survivors include a son, Donald James ā??Jimā? Fortman, of Columbus Grove; four daughters, Carol (Joe) Bunn and Charol Stechschulte, both of Columbus Grove, Kathy (Chris) Miller, of Lima, and Linda (Denny) Montgomery, of Bluffton; two sisters, Ruth Mitchel, of Greensboro, N.C., and Shirley (Glen ā??Dukeā?) Williams, of Fosters, Ala.; 13 grandchildren, Clinton Fortman, Tracy Fortman, Kurtis Fortman, Greg Bunn, Jodi (Dale) Niese, Cindy Radebaugh, Tina (Daryl) Kinstle, Lori (Corey) Blankemeyer, Jennifer (Mark) Galvin, Amy (Jeff) Gutman, Rodney (Kara) Montgomery, Vickie (John Garner) Lopez and Jason (Tiffany) Montgomery; and 21 great-grandchildren, Colton Spath, Shelby Schroeder, Clayton Niese, Brandon Radebaugh, Dustin Stechschulte, Tanner Blankemeyer, Anden Blankemeyer, Layton Blankemeyer, Sydney Wittenborg, Alec Hughes, Haylee Kinstle, Michel Kersker, Skylar Gutman, Nathan Brown, Joshua Lopez, Alaina Lopez, Shiley Roether, Samara King, Kendrick Galvin, Sabrina Galvin and Andrew Galvin.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Mark Alan Stechschulte; a brother, Donald ā??Butchā? (Ruby) Rimer; and six sisters, Marion Rimer, Freda (Victor) Collier, Esther (Perl) Dunlap, Mildred (Lee) Cattell, Myrtle (Harold) Campnell and Norma (Harmon ā??Peckā?) Meihls.
Services will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday at Columbus Grove Christian Church. Pastor Geoff Eubank will officiate. Per his wishes, his body was donated to The Ohio State University School of Medicine to foster the studies of medical science and research.
Friends may call one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
