LIMA ‚?? Dorothea M. ‚??Dot‚?Ě Nixon, 91, died at 5:11 a.m. June 18, 2013, at Baton Rouge Senior Health Facility.
Dorothea was born June 7, 1922, in Littleton, Mass., to the late Warren M. Nixon and Mabel Mae Lawrence Nixon.
Dorothea had been a home economics teacher in the Beverly School System, Beverly, Mass. She was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Mass., class of 1946, and a master of science degree in home economics education from Simmons College, Boston, in 1954. She was a life member of the American Home Economics Association; on the executive board of the Massachusetts Home Economics Association; the Beverly Teachers Association, where she served as secretary, vice-president and treasurer; life member of the Wing Family of America; the Westford Academy Alumni Association; and Danvers Historical Society.
She is survived by a brother, Edwin (Joan) Nixon, of Lima, OH; three nephews, Robert (Sally) Nixon, of Germantown, Paul (Kim) Nixon, of Austin, Texas, and John (Melanie) Nixon, of Lima; four nieces, Kelly (Craig) Templin, of Granbury, Texas, Patrice (Kim) Leimbach, of Marion, Julie (Craig) Jordan, of Lima, and Judy (John) Lethbridge, of Tyngsboro, Mass.; and 18 great-nieces and -nephews and four great-great-nieces and -nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence (Margery) Nixon; and two nieces, Maureen and Linda Nixon.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Gerard Catholic Church, Lima,. Father Jim Szobonya will officiate. Burial of the ashes will be at 11 a.m. July 25, 2013, in Westlawn Cemetery, Littleton, Mass.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, where a wake service will be held at 8 p.m.
