Marcus A. Hughes, 17, died at 4:20 p.m. May 26, 2008, at St. Vincent Hospital, Toledo.
He was born July 24, 1990, in Lima to Donald Hughes and Susan Collier. His father and stepmother, April Hughes, survive in Lima. His mother and stepfather, Everett Collier, survive in Bluffton.
Mr. Hughes was a junior at Bluffton High School and worked at Stratton Greenhouse, Bluffton. He was a member of First Mennonite Church, Bluffton, and its Mennonite Youth Fellowship. He enjoyed listening to music and playing video games with his friends. He helped others by being an organ and tissue donor.
Survivors also include two stepbrothers, Cody Routson and Joshua Routson, both of Lima; three stepsisters, Ciara Routson, of Lima, Ashley Gratz-Collier, of New York City, and Alee Gratz-Collier, of Bluffton; maternal grandmother, Mildred Burkholder, of Bluffton; paternal grandmother, Annie Hughes, of Lima; and paternal great-grandfather, David Cage, of Lima.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, David Burkholder; and paternal grandfather, Donald Hughes Sr.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Mennonite Church, Bluffton. The Revs. Steven J. Yoder, Louise Wideman and Daniel Hughes will officiate. Burial will be in Ebenezer Mennonite Cemetery, Bluffton.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Bluffton.
