LIMA ó Yvonne Carpenter, 87, died at 9:25 p.m. March 26, 2013, at Burtonís Ridge Assisted Living.
She was born Dec. 17, 1925, in Urbana to Samuel P. and Thelma Mae Broadstone McClain, who preceded her in death. On July 4, 1947, she married Victor Allen Carpenter, who died Sept. 5, 1999.
Mrs. Carpenter was a 1943 graduate of Lima South High School. She had worked at Dr. Heidtís veterinary clinic and at Dr. Carl Zinsmeisterís medical office. She retired in 1993 as a medical transcriber from Lima Memorial Hospital. She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, since 1962, and was involved in its quilting club. Along with quilting, she also enjoyed crocheting. She was an avid bowler, with her womenís team winning the city championship several times. Above all else, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include a son, Sean (Terrie) Carpenter, of Lima; a daughter, Viki Bushong, of Troy; a sister-in-law, Audry McClain, of Virginia Beach, Va.; four grandchildren, Emily Carpenter, Jessica (Branden) Albrecht, Sara (Mark) Barr and Zachary (Melissa) Carpenter; two stepgrandsons, Bradley Welker and Brenton Welker; and 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, Walter A. Carpenter; and two brothers, Sam P. Jr. and Billie (Katy) McClain.
Services will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel. The Rev. James Couser will officiate. Burial will be in St. Matthew Cemetery.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lima Firefighters Memorial Museum or the Alzheimerís Association.
