OTTAWA — Maria K. Kidd, 79, returned to the arms of the Lord at 4:55 a.m. July 9, 2013, at The Meadows at Putnam Acres, Ottawa, following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born April 27, 1934, in Karlstadt, Germany, to the late Anton and Lena Weiglein Forster. She came to the United States in early 1955, where she met Otto Vennekotter of Continental and they were married Nov. 23, 1955. Otto preceded her in death on May 21, 1992. On July 5, 1997, she married Dr. Charles Kidd, who survives in Ottawa.
She is also survived by two sons, Michael (Debbie) Vennekotter, of Republic, Mo., and Dr. Donald (Mary McLean) Vennekotter, of Jasper, Ind.; two daughters, Lisa (Mark) Rippetoe, of Continental, and Dr. Kathleen (Michael) Vennekotter-Busch, of Hilliard; 12 grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Willie Forster, of Miller City; and four stepchildren, Kathleen (Kenneth) Ruszkowski, of Williamsburg, Va., Daniel (Sandra) Kidd, of Houston, Texas., Kevin (Kathleen) Kidd, of Lima, and Patrick (Mary Ann) Kidd, of Lima.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Susan Vennekotter; and a stepson, Charles Kidd Jr.
Maria was a former member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, Cuba, Ohio, and was currently a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa. She loved traveling, cooking and gardening, but her most joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida. Father Mark Hoying will officiate. Burial will be in St. Isidore Cemetery, Cuba, Ohio.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa, where a Scripture service will be held at 3:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Putnam County Council on Aging.
