Miller City



LAVON R. LEIS, 77, died at 12:03 a.m. Oct. 10, 2006, at St. Rita's Medical Center.



He was born Jan. 6, 1929, in Miller City to Frederick and Frances Okuley Leis, who preceded him in death. On Nov. 17, 1962, he married Beverly Deters, who survives in Miller City.



Mr. Leis retired from Ford Motor Co. Lima Engine Plant. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City. He was a member of American Legion Post 63, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2234 and Knights of Columbus Council 1757, all in Ottawa, and the Miller City Sportsman's Club. He had been a member of the Miller City Volunteer Fire Department and had been a baseball coach. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports and enjoyed all Miller City sporting events. He also enjoyed fishing, polka dancing and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.



Survivors also include a son, James (Jan) Leis of Miller City; a daughter, Kathy (David) Schmitz of Glandorf; five grandchildren, John, Jessica and Jennifer Leis and Kelly and Bradley Schmitz; a sister, Dolores (John) Siefker of Miller City; and a brother-in-law, Don Niese of Leipsic.



He was preceded in death by a sister, Marvelle Niese.



Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City. Father Tim Knepper will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.



Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa, where a Scripture service will be held at 3 p.m. and a K. of C. rosary service at 7:30 p.m.



Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
