LIMA — Nancy J. Hobler, 82, of Delaware, Ohio, formerly of Lima, passed away early July 20, 2013, at home with her family by her side. She fought a courageous battle against cancer and she did it her way, just as she lived her life.

She was born Jan. 8, 1931, in Lima to the late Raymond and Mildred Baxter Brodbeck. She graduated from Lima South High School in 1948.

She married James “Jim” Hobler, her husband of 50 years, in 1949. They built a life together where they made a home and raised their family in Lima until 1967, when the family moved to Delaware, Ohio. They shared interests of fishing, camping and traveling, visiting all 49 of the continental United States in their recreational vehicle. Sebring, Fla., was home for them in their retirement years. Not long after they shared in the trip of a lifetime with a RV journey to Alaska, Jim passed away in 2000. Nancy moved back to Delaware, Ohio, shortly after. Nancy worked 15 years in the meat department of Buehler’s Grocery Store, Delaware, Ohio. She was active with the Delaware Senior Citizens and continued her traveling adventures through senior bus tours. She managed to complete her visit to the 50th state on a trip to Hawaii with the seniors. Nancy also enjoyed trips with her circle of close friends to various casinos. She had a passion for bingo, playing the slots and watching people. She enjoyed watching golf and, of course, the Wheel of Fortune. Nancy was pleasant and down to earth. She was famous for her back seat driving, which earned her the title of “BSD”. Whether it was driving directions or life decisions, she made her view known. She treasured her family and being involved in their lives.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Deborah (Paul) Hansberry, Susan (Thomas) Macklin, and Mark, Ann, and Steven Hobler, all of Delaware, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Watkins, Michael Wood, Stephanie Macklin, Michelle Macklin-Dabe, and Justin, Emily and Rebecca Hobler; four stepgrandchildren, Amy and Matthew Everhart, Adam Hansberry and Erica Hoggard; seven great-grandchildren, Ian Myers, Zachary, Ryan and Kortnee Watkins, Benjamin, Thomas, and Andrew Dabe.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and David Brodbeck; and a sister, Betty Mursener.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William St., at Valleyside Drive, Delaware, Ohio.

Celebration of Life services will follow at 7 p.m. The Rev. Donnie Akers will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to HomeReach Hospice, 561 W. Central Ave., Delaware, OH 43015.

The Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center is honored to serve the Hobler family.
