LIMA ‚?? William ‚??Bill‚?Ě West, 70, died at 7:30 a.m. June 21, 2013, at Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus.
He was born on March 10, 1943, in Middlesboro, Ky., to William C. and Mary R. Wagner West, who preceded him in death. On July 5, 1974, he married Jane Murphy, who survives in Lima.
Mr. West was in the first graduating class of Perry High School in 1961, where he was a member of his high school basketball team, winning the Northwest Conference Championship with a record record of 10-0. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was an owner/operator truck driver for Allied Van Lines and Lane‚??s Moving and Storage for more than 50 years, until retiring in 2011. He loved horses, enjoyed old Western movies and listening to Southern gospel music. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and spoiling them with his chocolate peanut butter fudge and chocolate cakes. He was the most generous, ornery man.
Survivors also include a daughter, Rachelle (Mike) Weitz, of Spencerville; three granddaughters, Joy (Josh) Buetner, of Elida, Brooke Swick, of Spencerville, and Sommer Kohli, of Lima; five great-grandchildren, Daulton Buetner, McKenzie McCormick, Dylan Buetner, Tyler Kohli and Alivia Buetner; four brothers, Charles David (Barb) West, of Cridersville, Clyde Edward (Sondra) West, of Lima, Harry Joseph (Debbie) West, of Frankfort, Ky., and Michael Wayne (Kelly) West, of Atlanta; and a sister, Patricia Ann (George) Marlatt, of Greenbrier, Tenn.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel. The Rev. John Barcus will officiate. Burial of the cremains will take place at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor‚??s choice.
