Oliver J. "Ollie" Sever

Oliver J. “Ollie” Sever, 95, died at 11:20 p.m. July 20, 2010, at VanCrest Healthcare Center, Delphos.

He was born July 29,1914, in Landeck to Marcus and Anna Rahrig Sever, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 31, 1941, he married Rita Kill, who survives in Delphos. They were married for more than 68 years.

Mr. Sever had been head maintenance engineer at Delphos St. John’s School and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos, where he was a member. He tirelessly dedicated 45 years, retiring in 1976. He loved decorative woodworking, building furniture and taking his work to craft shows. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Delphos St. John’s Blue Jays. He was a major fan of The Ohio State University Buckeyes and had been a fan of the Cleveland Indians. He enjoyed gardening and fishing. His children, grandchildren, family and church were his strong commitments.

Survivors also include three sons, Mark Sever and Carl Sever, both of Fort Collins, Colo., and Oliver “Joe” (Kathy) Sever Jr., of Columbus; four daughters, Penny (Ben) Chinni, of Cleveland, Rosemary Koval, of Annadale, Va., Janet (Jim) Singleton, of Wadsworth, and Laurel “Laurie” (Sam) Kill, of Spencerville; a sister, Mary Dabbs, of Ann Arbor, Mich.; 17 grandchildren, Christine, Jason, Adrienne, Mark, Andrew, Devin, Stephanie, Jenni, Autumn, Nathan, Ryan, Aaron, Adam, Michael, Vanessa, Emily and Matt; and 10 great-grandchildren, Anthony, Alexander, Delaney, Kennedy, Brian, Timothy, Aidan, David, Ty and Ashleigh.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Cecilia Wilhelm; and three brothers, Lester, Stanley and Howard Sever.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos. Father Jacob Gordon will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Harter & Schier Funeral Home, Delphos, where a parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Parish Foundation.
