LIMA — Robert G. “Bob” Martz, 83, died at 2:35 p.m. Sept. 14, 2012, at Lima Convalescent Home.

He was born April 4, 1929, in Gomer to Harry and Evelyn Pugh Martz, who preceded him in death. On May 24, 1952, in Columbus Grove, he married Barbara Ann Jones, who survives in Lima.

Mr. Martz was a 1947 graduate of Columbus Grove High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War with the 2nd Infantry Division. He owned and operated Robert Martz Masonry Inc. for more than 30 years. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 and American Legion Post 96, where he served as commander from 1989 to 1990. He was also a life member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54 and was a 32nd degree Mason, with memberships in several other Mason groups. He was a member of the Naples, Fla., Shrine Club and served as its president. He was a member of the Community United Methodist Church, Shawnee, and an associate member of East Naples United Methodist Church, Naples, Fla.

Survivors also include a son, Jeffrey Martz, of Knoxville, Tenn.; a daughter, Tanya (Michael) Ketchum, of Harrod; four grandchildren, Bret Martz, Bethany Martz, Craig (Kim) Ketchum and Nicholas Ketcham; two sisters, Dorothy (John) Kindle, of Lima, and Betty (Jim) Coil, of Columbus Grove; a brother, Doyle (Jean) Martz, of Landeck; and a sister-in-law, Marcene Martz, of Dallas.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Don Martz; and a sister, Wanda (Merrill) Waters.

Services will begin at 11 a.m.Tuesday at Community United Methodist Church, Shawnee. The Rev. Bryan Bucher will officiate. Burial will be in Shawnee Cemetery.

Friend may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel, and 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community United Methodist Church, Shawnee, or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
