Kathryn Louise Hawk Smith died in Westlake April 4. She was 94.
Kathryn was born Sept. 14, 1918, in Lafayette. She was the youngest daughter of Walter O. Hawk and Mabel Yoakam Hawk of Lafayette.
Her sisters and brothers, all deceased, included Dwight (Mildred), Elizabeth “Betty” (Charles) Dowell , Michael (Florence), Martha Belle Sullivan (Regis, living), Walter Jr. (Rowena, living), and Dorthy Jean and Jo Ann, who both died in infancy.
Kathryn graduated from Lafayette High School in 1936, and Lima Secretarial School. She married Donald Edwin Smith (d, 1991) of Gomer, on July 20, 1940. Don served in the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. After the war they eventually settled near Hilliard. Kathryn worked for the Hilliard and Upper Arlington school districts. After the death of Don she lived at Willow Brook Christian Community, Delaware, Ohio, and Brighton Gardens, Westlake, and went to be with her Lord after a long illness.
Kathryn is survived by her three children, Kelly (Thomas), of Loudonville, Michael (Gail), of North Ridgeville, and Steven (Patricia), of Columbia, S.C. Kathryn’s six grandchildren include, Scott (Christine) Mallory , Thomas “Buck” (Katharine) Mallory and Christian Mallory, all of Columbus, Christina Smith (Gabriel) Byler, of Grafton, Matthew Smith, of Norwalk, and Nathan Smith, of Columbia, S.C. Kathryn had nine great-grandchildren, with another due soon.
Funeral services will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church, Lafayette, at 11 a.m., with calling hours at the church one hour before the service. A lunch will be served at the church immediately following burial.
