WESTMINSTER


Charles J. Stevens, 82, died at 4 a.m. July 18, 2013, at Lost Creek Care Center, Lima.


He was born Jan. 30, 1931, in Spencerville, to the late Jesse Stevens and Dorothy Thomas Stevens. On June 30, 1973, he married Shirley Ann Bastin, and she survives.


Mr. Stevens retired from Ford Motor Company in 1991 after 36 1/2 years. He was a member of Ford UAW. He was a 50-year member of Garrett Wycoff Lodge No. 585 F&AM, Lima Chapter and 32nd Degree, Scottish Rite-Valley of Dayton. Lima Chapter No. 49 R.A.M., Lima Council No. 20 R&S.M. Eastern Star-Lafayette, life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 on burial detail. He was also a member of American Legion Post 96; Eagles Aerie 370, Lima; and Korean Veterans Association. He spent countless hours of volunteering for the Boy Scouts. He was past president of Allen East Athletic Boosters, spending countless hours. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He attended Westside Church of Christ, Lima.


Survivors also include four sons, Darrell L. (Janie) Smith, of Fairfield, Steven L. Smith, of Bowling Green, Ky., Jeffrey L. Smith, of Hamilton, and Gregory L. (Melanie) Stevens, of Columbus; a daughter, Judy K. Wireman, of Lima; 10 grandchildren; six brothers and three sisters.


He was preceded in death by a son, James L. Stevens, and a grandchild, Brent Beggs.


A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima. Pastor Bob Horton will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.


Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
