LIMA Dr. John D. Albertson was born November 15, 1922 to Rev. and Mrs. A.B. Albertson, who have preceded him in death. He passed away May 3, 2013 at the age of 90.



In 1941, he graduated from Lima Central High School. He then attended Ohio Wesleyan University before enlisting in the US Navy, where he served as a Pharmacist Mate 1st Class in the Pacific Theater. Upon returning, he married his sweetheart, Martha Jane Dodds, June 29, 1946, who survives. He graduated from Ohio State University College of Medicine and moved to Lima, where he was in private practice for 45 years. Following retirement, he served as Campus Physician at Ohio Northern University, and as Medical Director at Lima Convalescent Home.



He believed in a life of service. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church; a life member of Sertoma, where he served as President and District Governor; a member of the Allen County Academy of Medicine; served as the Lima Memorial Hospital Chief of Staff; was a member of the Board of Directors of Lima Convalescent Home; and a member of the Masonic Lodge.



Dr. Albertson loved to travel with family and friends, documenting his excursions with wonderful photography. He was a fisherman extraordinaire and avid boater.



He is also survived by his daughter, Anne (Larry) Wenger; daughter-in-law, Debra Albertson; 7 grandchildren; Jonathon (Heather) Albertson, Jennifer (Mike) Rope, Julie (Matt) Klaus, Andie (Dan) Mobley, Adam Geiger, Andy (Katherine) Wenger, and Emily (Matt) Reynolds; and 17 great-grandchildren: Hayden, Channing, Ella, Bree, Victoria, Richard, George, Elizabeth, Jacob, Meghan, Maggie, Jackson, Ashton, Brock, Colby, Emma, and Isabelle.



He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas B. Albertson and sister, Mary Louise Metzo.



The family of Dr. Albertson would like to express sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Otterbein, Cridersville, for their care and friendship.



Services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Rev. David Harris will officiate and interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday at Chiles Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel and one hour prior to the services Tuesday at the church.
