CRIDERSVILLE The Rev. Donald E. Hurley, 86, formerly of Wapakoneta, died at 4:07 a.m. July 10, 2013, at Otterbein-Cridersville Retirement Community.


He was born March 20, 1927, in Spencerville, the son of the late Roy and Della Orchid Hurley. On May 14, 1947, he married Betty June Richardson, who died Oct. 31, 2011.


The Rev. Hurley was a retired minister, tradesman and mechanic. He was a Navy veteran serving during World War II and was a member of the Navy SeaBees. Don enjoyed woodworking and making bird houses, gardening, making his own beer and dandelion wine, and old Turner Classic movies. He was a self-taught Jack-of-all-trades, taking apart machines and putting them back together, could wire anything, and was interested in everything. He also drove truck for Pepsi Co.


Survivors include three sons, Donald E. (Cheryl) Hurley Jr., of Sevierville, Tenn., John W. (Lorraine) Hurley, of Spencerville, and Dwight D. (Edna) Hurley, of Virginia; a daughter, Cheryl A. (Michael) Teets, of Erie, Mich.; and 10 grandchildren and15 great-grandchildren.


Memorial services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. The Rev. Rick Lamb will officiate. Burial will be in Spencerville Cemetery, Spencerville, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6772.


The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville.
