Richard D. Kennedy, of Longboat Key, Fla., formerly of Wapakoneta, passed away Jan. 13, 2013, at his residence, with immediate family by his side.
He is survived by his companion, Penny G. Kentosh, of Longboat Key, Fla.; a son, Richard Scott Kennedy and wife Kimberle; stepdaughters, Rebecca Kentosh (Daniel Hopper, husband) and Kristine Richardson Thackrey (Doug Thackrey, husband); stepson, Mark Richardson; grandchildren, Jenna Marie Kennedy Grigsby (Michael, husband), Nicholas Ian Kennedy (Ashley, wife), Kasey Ann Kennedy, Jack Leelin Hopper, Katherine and Rachael Thackrey; great-grandson, Weston Richard Kennedy; brother, Donald B. Kennedy and wife Kathleen; niece, Marcia Kennedy Victor (Steven, husband); and nephew, Brian Kennedy (Violet, wife).
He was preceded in death by his son, Steven Daryl Kennedy; and parents, Richard B. and Amelia C. Dorsten Kennedy.
Richard was a graduate of Blume High School, Wapakoneta. He attended the University of Cincinnati and served in the Air Force. He founded, owned and operated Midwest Specialties Inc., Wapakoneta. Richard retired to Longboat Key, Fla., in 2008.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held in Lima at a later date. Cremation was handled by Toale Brothers Funeral Home in Sarasota, Fla.
