Joseph J. Guagenti, 76, died at 4:52 a.m. Dec. 7, 2007, at his residence.
He was born May 16, 1931, in Chicago Heights, Ill., to Joseph and Tillie Zerante Guagenti, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 29, 1951, he married Barbara A. Rothwell, who survives in Lima.
Mr. Guagenti was the owner and operator of Americas Minute Man Auto Repair Shop from which he retired in 1998. He was a charter member of St. Charles of Borromeo Catholic Church. He was a 1949 graduate of St. Rose Catholic High School. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was devoted to his family and loved to tell everyone about them.
Survivors also include four sons, Joseph E. (Jennifer) Guagenti, of Elida, Jeffrey P. (Jane) Guagenti, of Westerville, George G. (Pat) Guagenti, of Lexington, Ky., and John M. (Tonnie) Guagenti, of Lima; four daughters, Mary C. (John) Walsh and Judy A. (Mike) Spieldenner, both of Findlay, Toni L. Guagenti, of Norfolk, Va., and Angela (Grant Hoyt) Matemi, of Powell; three brothers, Sam Guagenti, Francis Guagenti and Louis Guagenti, all of Lima; a sister, Gena CaJacob, of Lima; 27 grandchildren, Joe, Jason, Brian, Cristy, Shelly, Lori, Katie, Nolan, Nick, Nate. A.J., Alex, Vince, Catherine, Theresa, Michelle, John, Janice, Jackie, Megan, Brandi, Jami, Jennifer, James, Lauren, Julia and Grace; and 14 great-grandchildren, Allison, Joey, Maggie, Caylen, Kendall, Anthony, Avery, Vincent, Lexie, Eric, Alexandra, Bella, Caleb and Noah.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Guagenti.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Charles of Borromeo Catholic Church. The Rev. Mike Geiger will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel.
