Judge sets May trial date for suspended sheriff

WAPAKONETA

A spring trial date has been set for suspended Shelby County Sheriff Dean Kimpel on a charge of sexual battery.

Auglaize County Common Pleas Judge Frederick Pepple on Friday set a trial date of May 7 with four days allowed. Kimpel is accused of sexually assaulting former deputy Jodi Van Fossen at her Wapakoneta-area home in July 2010.

Kimpel also faces five counts of unauthorized use of the Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway in Shelby County. A three-day trial has been set to start April 3 in that case.

Kimpel has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
