1. What exactly is the 12 Days of Baking challenge? It's something I started last year when we moved here to Lima. I started writing a blog, and I talked about the things I am interested in, which are running and baking. I was kind of bored, so I decided to do 25 different cookies in the 25 days leading up to Christmas. That was kind of a lot, so this year I am doing 12 cookies.2. How did you hear about this idea? There are a lot of recipe blogs that do things similar to this. That is what gave me the idea.3. What is the name of your blog? The name of my blog is http://lifeinbeantownusa.blogspot.com.4. How did you get so interested in baking?Every year, I would do baking with my mom. We would put together cookie tins for people. That is something we did together when I was growing up. People loved them so much they would start asking when they would get theirs.5. Where did you come up with the recipes you are using? Some of them are family favorites. In fact, a lot of the ones I did last year were family favorites. This year, I am trying new recipes. I read a lot of recipe blogs, and I have just sort of found recipes that sounded good and I wanted to try out.6. What are you baking now and what will you be baking? This is a turtle shortbread. A few years ago, when I lived in Illinois, I entered a Christmas cookie contest with this recipe. I think I came in second or third, I can't remember now. My other cookies I've already made peanut butter cup cookies, gingerbread cake balls, peppermint brownies, chewy lemon cookies and almond cake bars. I plan to also do some kind of biscotti [but] I haven't decided yet which kind. I'm also doing chocolate cherry surprise cookies. To be honest, I haven't completely decided on all the kinds I'll do.7. When do you bake and how much time do you spend in the kitchen each day?Like today, I'm doing a couple kinds of cookies and I did two different kinds yesterday, too. I try to bake enough to put one type of cookie on my blog each day. I've been spending one to two hours a day in the kitchen, so really not too much. .... Sometimes I get behind so I have to double up and do two cookies on one day, but I put one cookie on the blog each day, so there are 12 days of cookies.8. How much does it cost for all your baking supplies? As for the cost of my baking supplies, I've never really added it up. It's too depressing. It probably runs me $150 to $200 above the normal grocery budget for December. 9. What do you do with all these goodies? This week I'll dispense a lot of it at school. I'll also make cookie tins closer to Christmas, and I'll remake this stuff so it is fresh.10. What was your goal in doing this what were you hoping to accomplish?Basically, I wanted to try new recipes. Really, I just love baking and this was a good excuse for me to get in the kitchen.
