1. So you played in Dayton last season. What's the latest with your career?I'm in between contracts right now but I've been talking to some teams in the MLS [Major League Soccer]. I spent week down with the Columbus Crew, I've been talking to Colorado, New York and some other teams, just looking to see what comes up.2. How did you end up in professional soccer?I played at the University of Kentucky and when I graduated from there I was invited to a tryout with the PDL [Premier Development League] and got on the semipro team in Dayton, the Dayton Dutch Lions. The following year, which was last year, they were promoted to the USL professional league and I was still on the team and was able to move up to with the team.3. How has your professional career been going so far?It was pretty much a breakthrough season for me. I led the team in scores with seven, was named player of the week in the USL. It was a good season, I just need to keep the momentum going now.4. Did you grow up expecting to play professional soccer?I've always had ambitions to play professional soccer, ever since I was a little kid. Coming up on the end of my college career I really didn't know if it would happen. Luckily, I caught a break, worked hard and it happens. It goes to show, dreams do come true. 5. What are you doing in your off time?I'm back in town and running some soccer clinics. I do private instruction and group instruction. Right now, there's another session starting the first weekend of December. We're doing them out at FAST [Functional Accelerated Sports Training]. I'll be working out with them over the break here, staying in condition so I'm ready to go.6. What is the biggest difference between playing college and professional soccer?Playing professionally, the big difference is the speed of play and the decision-making. It's a lot faster. Everybody has the fundamentals and speed and the higher you go up in the leagues, the faster it gets. You have to be special to stand out.7. What is the single most important thing you tell kids who want to play professionally?Learn the fundamentals. Everybody says it, but it's true. You have to learn the technique and the fundamentals of the game. Once you learn those, you have the tools to move on, get faster and get better. You can comment on this story at www.limaohio.com.
